9K Alarm
« on: 04 July 2011, 09:03:37 PM »
Hi all, first post in this new place!

The alarm system on our 1995 Aero doesn't work at all.  When it should be working, we hear a relay clicking, but nothing else.  The alarm horn isn't faulty - that works fine from a direct electrical feed.  There are also no warning bongs when the boot is opened, as we have had on past 9Ks.

Any ideas on where we start?

Does the LED in the LH (RH in your case) speaker blink when attempting to arm the alarm? If so observe the duration and frequency of the flashes and refer to the attached chart.

I guess that this is as good a place to start trouble shooting the VSS as any.

If the LED does not flash at all, make sure you have fresh batteries in the key fob and follow the steps below;

Alarm Reset After Replacing Battery
To reset the alarm get in the car and remove the alarm fuse (#17?) and then put it back in. Make sure the interior light switch is in position # 1. Open the drivers door get out and then close it. Then turn the drivers door lock to the left 3 consecutive times quickly and then to the right one time to lock the doors. Then watch the interior light under the rear view mirror and 10 seconds after the interior light goes out the alarm light in the speaker grille will begin to blink.

Not much help I know, but at least a start.

Good luck - the VSS can be a pain to repair.

Small point ; VSS is the imobiliser portion of the Ecu alarm interface.. 'engine imobiliser'  function in English.
It can only be activated/deactivated with access to the ECU program. T5 suite is your friend :-)
Often 'alarm' issues can be a simple as bad batteries in the Key Fob remote.
Replace those FIRST then post back.
Not certain itwill fix your issues , regardless those batteries need changing out semi regularly, so no loss either way.
Europarts wants several $ each for the batteries. Local Mountaineering shop charges $2 for the pair..  same brand :-) shop carefully.

Hello, I hope it is OK for me to jump in here. I have been reading this info with great expectation that I could solve an alarm problem with one of my 9000's. I was looking at the chart posted by chengny, and would like to thank him for it. I thought that I had VSS, but after reviewing the chart it appears that I may only have the anti-theft system. I recently replaced the batteries, and the fob seems to operate intermittently but, can anyone tell me if there is a re-setting procedure to be used after a battery change.PH4

Welcome! :)

I can't speak for the 9000, but on the 9-5 you have to press a button on the key fob up to 5 times to synchronise it.

But yours is working from time to time so it should be synchronised.

A few years back on a very early 9-5 I changed a fob battery and I moved the circuit board a fraction of an inch.  The buttons would not touch the switches on the board and the fob didn't work.  Very careful repositioning the board got it working again.
