A/C air inlet in plenum area
« on: 27 June 2023, 11:40:13 PM »
Thought I'd have another go disinfecting the a/c, so lifted the scuttle/plenum cover. The pollen filter was a bit grubby but not too bad. But the surround that holds it has a broken clip on one side, so I could probably do with a replacement.

That would also allow me to fit a new seal / gasket between the housing and the body, as the one on there now looks dried out and like it doesn't seal very well.

So the question is, can one buy the pollen filter housing new, complete with gasket, or do I need to go to a scrappies, and buy some draught excluder to use as a seal?

I can't see that the seal is critical.  It will prevent a bit of air bypassing the filter, if it's tight.  But the filter itself isn't waterproof, so a tight seal won't make too much difference.

there has to be a seal between the housing and the body, otherwise the motor and footwell will fill up with water,if/when the scuttle drain gets blocked allowing a pond to form and drain inside the car..

^ this. The seal around the housing prevents water that drains from the windscreen entering into the passenger compartment, filling the vent fan in the process.

But the pollen filter itself will let the water through.  If the drain blocks, the filter material will not srtop it, and in time will soften and fall apart.
