Likely CPS has gone.
« on: 18 January 2025, 03:49:53 PM »
It never rains but it pours.

So far this month...

New boiler.
Failed exhaust on the Carlsson.

Now the 9-5 failed to start in the Tesco carpark.  It started twice after short trips on the way there, so I assumed it was the hot start CPS issue.

I went off and had a cup of coffee  to let it cool for half an hour. Then i thought about it, and bought a bag of frozen peas to help it cool :)

On my return, it started, just.  So I have a job for tomorrow.  And I have a bag of frozen peas!

Sorry to hear that, but good news on the 9-5 diagnostic.

I take it you have a CPS on the shelf already

Do you like peas, or would sweetcorn have been a preferable option

I have a CPS in the boot, but I didn't feel like changing it in the Tesco car park.  I put most of my tools back in the shed as the boot of the car is still full of the stuff I removed from the utility room to allow the boiler men free rein, so I'm not sure i had the right ones with me.

Peas are fine.  The pack is one with the four smaller ones inside.  I was only planning to use one small pack at a time!! :)

CPS is changed.  Access is a nightmare.  Took far too long and my back is very sore.

But, the CPS should have a resistance of 860 Ω ± 90 Ω.  So, between 770 & 950 Ω.  The old one was reading 1350 Ω.  The new Valeo one was 832 Ω.

The car now starts fairly promptly.  I'll take it for a test run in the morning to check all is OK.  But it looks promising.

I was well wrapped up and fortunately there was no wind at all.

I had to do something as the other car is off the road awaiting a new exhaust.

Glad the 9-5 is sorted, I'm assuming that the bolts yielded reasonably easily due to prior work, it was just access that was the usual challenge alongside the cold

Access is more difficult on mine as the 3 inch Hirsch downpipe gets in the way, ans all my extensions are too short or too long.   I changed the Torx screw when I did the last change and put in a stud and nut.  The problem is that my sockets are too thick and the heat shield is too close to the nut...  It went on, but coming off was a different matter...

I've done a few runs in the car since the CPS change, and it's definitively running more smoothly.  I'm surprised that, if there was a fault in normal running with the CPS faulty, that there wasn't the CPS code.  I can't remember which one it is.  Maybe something like P0304.
