how do i spot a Griffin?
« on: 04 September 2011, 11:40:33 PM »
Hi guys!
What are the essential differences between a 2.3 CDE and a Griffin model?
The one I was looking at today didn't have the suede inserts on the seats or the wood on the gear lever but it did say Griffin on the boot and has a glass sunroof.

If my memory serves me right the Griffin only came as a 3 litre V6, booted model (CDE)

Nope, it was a 2.3T FTP too.

Well, I went and bought it, didn't I.
Car seems to have been well looked after until it was laid up at 82K(saab servive to 60K and oil and filter every 6K after that)
There are a few problems, nothing too major I hope.
It doesn't get the power down too good but I am hoping that a new set of vaccuum hoses will fix that.
Brake pedal sticks a bit and sometimes you have to put your toe under it to give it a bit of a lift.
SRS light is on but I hope that when I sort out the brakes that will come right.

I know nothing about autos except that I'm not sure if I like them  ::) so any advice will be well appreciated
Thanks

If it's a 2.3T then sticky brake pedal will only give you base boost.

SRS is the airbag system, not brakes. Only way to sort that is with Tech 2

You haven't said what year but for 1997:
the 9000 CDE 2.3 had a 170 bhp ecopower engine but the Griffin was T2.3 with 200 bhp.
The Griffin  had an auto gearbox as standard with manual as NCO, metallic paint, electric sunroof, electric memory seat, computer, cruise control CD and driving pack included in the £31,550 price which was almost six grand more than the 2.3 CDE.

Later the 9-5 Griffin has a 3.0 V6 engine.

Its a 1997, so 200bhp ;D.
But it looks like I'll have to find someone with tech 2.
The place I used to use has gone belly up.

What causes the sticky pedal? Is it a spring or corrosion on the pistons?
