Radio Code
« on: 14 March 2013, 11:00:09 PM »
Though I have the owners manual I do not have the radio code.

I found a place on line that will provide the code but they want £25!

There is also a place that will provide a download, but I need to know the manufacturer of the radio. I have looked all over and
cannot find anything to indicate who makes the Saab unit.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks. :)

Your radio has no code, and no way of entering one.

Is this the head unit that has come out of your car?  If so it will always work in your car, but no other.

The head unit is linked to the car's security system.

A Saab Service garage can move it from car to car by "divorcing" it from your car and "marrying" to another.

If you have bought a head unit that has not been divorced from the original car, you have a problem.  An undivorced unit is a doorstop.

There is a way of fitting a radio to a different car, but only if you know the VIN number of the original vehicle it came from.  It's a bit more complex and needs a service agent to agree to do the "fiddle".  Not all will.

All the divorcing and marrying needs a Saab Tech 2 diagnostic computer.

Sorry Will, maybe I didn't explain it properly.

My car has the original stereo, I was assuming that like other cars I have owned, if the unit is removed or if the battery is disconnected it will need to have a security code entered in order for the unit to work again.

Is this not the case with Saabs? I was worried that if I need to disconnect the battery the radio wouldn't work any more.

In your car the radio is "married" to the car.  It can be removed and replaced as often as you like.  No code needed.

I had a radio out of my 9-5 for a fortnight once. All I lost were the radio presets.

You only need to do the divorcing and remarrying if you want to use the unit in a different car.

You may find that once the unit is out, the code MAY have been written on the unit itself.
IIRC, Pioneer are the manufacturers (?)
Units on the GM900 do not have to be married to the car, BTW.

The basic or "Popular" unit in a 9-5 was made by Clarion.

I'm assuming that the radio is in a 2001 9-3.
