Rear Wheel Arches
« on: 12 September 2013, 10:43:12 AM »
The old GM900 V6 3 door coupe is going like a train, but the rear wheel arches are showing signs of moth.

Does anybody still do pattern parts for them? The usual filler treatment only seems to last about six months before it starts to come through again.

I'm not really sure what the question is... but anyway, why pattern parts? I wouldn't have thought anyone would have ever bothered making pattern body panels for a Saab anyway (well, apart from vintage stuff) and those panels are at least £475 each+vat according to my old price list.

Anyhow, if you mean the metal has tin worm then it's a significant chunk of dosh to sort it properly as the panels would need to be cut out, you'd need to drill out welds and then weld new panels in, grind those welds, fill as appropriate, then paint it, I'd be asking a body shop how much they'd want. I don't think you'd get much change out of nearly £2000 if you go down that path hence you need to ask the people who will be doing the work, they may be able to do better repairs using their own fabricated parts.
