MY2000 Aero Smoking Turbo?
« on: 01 May 2015, 08:47:31 AM »
Morning All,

Had a lot of blue smoke after using boost, as in foot down, lift off, reapply, instant smoke! Had this before on my 9-3 and replaced the PCV system and it cured it. I've replaced the entire PCV system on the 9-5 (no collapsed pipes) but no change. Also appears to be weeping oil out of the head (which it wasn't before) and I'm assumming this was also a symptom of internal pressure, too soon to know if this has stopped.
My query is this, have I missed replacing anything or is it likely that the turbo oil seals are on the way out?

Many thanks, any advice appreciated.

Terry

Have you got the PCV valve the right way around, it runs from the oil catch pipe on the back of the head to the throttle body.  The arrow should point towards the intake manifold, if you have one fitted now check that it stops air the right way and isn't broken.

If that isn't it then the turbo is most likely problem.

Hi

Have checked the 'check' valve and tested the flow and it's feeding into the throttle body.

Tried little experiment, loosened the oil filler cap and took it for a run - full throttle turbo, no smoke on lift off and re-apply. Repeated procedure until I stopped smiling. Left engine running (so no change to anything open/closed) and tightened up the oil cap. Repeat blast down road, oil smoke on lift off.

So it appears to be a problem with crank case pressure. As I've just put a brand new PVC system on (ALL pipes, box, check valves etc - blow tested in each direction before fitted, checked all pipes still in place as well as vacuum pipes) what else can it be? Does the Oil cap have a vent hole?

No error codes recorded or EML on. I'm off to check the cylinder compression in case it's 'blow by'.

Any ideas welcome!

Oil cap is not vented.
