HEADLIGHTS MYSTERY
« on: 27 February 2016, 03:07:19 PM »
So yesterday SWMBO tells me that on a couple of occasions when she has driven to work the dip headlamps come on when she has parked the car and turned the ignition off.....of course it hasn't done it for the last couple of days when I have driven the car!  So I did replace both dip beam bulbs a few weeks ago but I have done that plenty of times and you can't fit them incorrectly anyway due to the pin configuration on the bulb and connector. One thought that has crossed my mind is that the dip beam relay is faulty - the wipers played up a couple of years ago which was down to the relay.

Any other suggestions gentlemen?

Sounds more like it's the follow me home lighting, I recall that you stop the car, take the key out and then pull the headlamp stalk (as if turning on main beam) and when you get out the car it will put the lights on.

It more than sounds like it - your diagnosis is spot on.  As we have a street light right oustside our property we have never had any need to use the 'follow me home' lighting - in fact as the car is a Linear I didn't think it even had it!!!  I had to check with my copy of the brochure to find out that it was standard on all trim levels.

Thank you very much -  I had already tried all the possible suppliers of Bosch relays in the small town we live in to no avail (the car has six of the same pattern relay in the engine bay fuse/relay box) and desperation was setting in!
