Andrew - you should have PM'd me. You're only 15 mins away from me. I'm an Architectural Technologist which may be who you have had round. Not to late to get another quotation for the work?? We give a fixed figure covering all aspects of the project so you get fully approved drawings ready for builder to start with all approvals received. My first visit is FOC............................ I was only in Mulbarton on Friday

Strangely, so was our chap.
He's from 'The Thatch, Seething Fen'
And stereotypically, he drove a silver Saab.

Well after using the central locking button to lock the car before parking up I finally got round to getting the code read and the culprit is the passenger door lock which is why if I went into settings and put doors only it still went off. Even after chap cleared the code we tried again and immediately it threw up the same code.

I also had issues again with air con going haywire and showing --- in display so no chilled air when outside was clearly 30 deg!!!! It seemed when the other stuff was done they used snap lock connectors to repair a wiring issue and one had come off. The chap was puzzled why they hadn't simply replaced the sensor connector which is what he did and snapped the sensor back into it's slot in middle of lower grille. Cost for Tech II and part - 30 quid!!!!!

Tom Hagstrom has moved into some reasonable size premises off Ayton Road in Wymondham and has a couple of young lads working for him who seem pretty clued up; one is a Saab master tech apparently. This lad who looked about 25 certainly knew exactly what to do and had been working on a Turbo X LTD they have in and was parked behind a new NG 9-5 that had the Hirsch logo on the back. I had been wary of Tom in the past but if these lads are any good then I may well be going back. They quoted me £40 for the door lock and £90 for labour cost - I dare not ask Thurlow Nunn our main dealers for a cost. They wanted £65 for tech II

Having seen some of his work in the past I would avoid for servicing and repairs. I know of someone who left their car with him to find that it came back with different wheels on it.... The guys working for him might be fine but he has moved around all over the place in the past to different premises due to various issues, he would be however be fine if you need parts, especially for older cars.

Thankfully he wasn't there and I agree I wouldn't leave my car with him for service or repairs but as you say for parts - fine and also Tech II code checking fine for £20.

I went to see him when he was in Aylsham Road in Norwich when I had my black Abbott 9-5 Aero and all he wanted to do was take it for a drive whilst I simply wanted the 4 alloy lugs for holding luggage in place in the back of the estate - no way would I let him try it.......................

I think often people think he sounds good having Scandinavian surname and that he's Saab trained - couldn't be further from the truth and I think for a while he was an estate agent - say no more..............

Do you reckon price is right to fit door locking mechanism?

Sounds fairly reasonable all in, I don't think you'd get it cheaper anyway. I'd be interested if the guy was a Saab master tech if he that young as I doubt the program continued as it was administered through GM! I must say when I saw that Hagstrom got accredited as a official service outlet it made me doubt the value of using an official service outlet, also reading on other forums it appears that some of the genuine parts are now dropping in quality too which makes the whole genuine/official thing a bit of a worry!

Well I must admit having spend the short end of 2k at TN having all those parts replaced that the temperature sensor was simply mackled together not even snapped into place and the lad simply made it work without the snap locks!

Yup, paying all that money for the "main dealer" to do it and then have them do something like that is not good!

We've just paid £60 for a S/H NSR door lock and £75 in labour to change it (+vat).

It took all morning as the door wouldn't open and the had to dismantle the door from inside the car and smash the old lock off.

It's a major dismantle job even if the door will open!

Also, Tom's not around much now, he's seriously unwell and having treatment.

Rear door lock is difficult.  I tried and gave up!  It's a window, and window mechanism, out job.

Any chance it's item 7 causing it to go off?

just looking at this list - would a battery in the car that is smaller than what is supposed to be cause this issue/trigger the alarm?

i am getting the same on mine now - started the other day before i took it to the garage - mechanic told me about the battery being different to the size supposed to be in there. i told him about the alarm, but he said the whole time it was with him, it didn't go off. sods law.

also, what is the seat belt issue - my seat belt is slow to retract. could that be causing it?

all these niggly little things. i'll get them all sorted eventually!

on a plus note, i managed to get the tyre pressure sensors done on mine today - so that is one thing fixed anyway. so slowly slowly.

Slow retraction of the seat belt is fairly common.  There can be several causes, or maybe a lot adding up.  You can clean up the top link on the door pillar and spray the belt with silicone spray, which will help a bit.  The main cause is often fluff in the roller mechanism at the bottom of the pillar.  You can try vacuuming this out.  Beware the airbag circuitry and the belt tensioning bits.  Don't disconnect the system or play with the ignition while around there unless you know what you are doing.. It can set off the airbag warning light and that will need a Tech2 reset.

However, the thing that helped the most was realising that the wear on the belt had left a "fuzz" on the belt, especially around the edges.  I shaved the fuzz off with the beard trimmer on my electric shaver and the belt was much freer.
