Hi All

got the message on the SID saying that the battery needed replacing in my remote locking key (all in one key with controls, not the one with the separate  big slug for opening the doors) - looked in the handbook and it says to take it to garage to get it done. Is this not something I could do myself, and if so how is it done and what battery willl I need.

Secondly any ideas how long after getting the first message I have before the key will stop working?

Thanks

Michael

It's a CR1632. In my experience you have plenty of time before it fails completely. And it's dead easy to do at home - I'll try to find a link to some simple instructions in a mo.

Cheers Tom - all looks very simple, I assumed it must be. Think I'll wait until next weekend when I will have my spare key near by in case I balls it up, need to order a battery as well which will also dictate when I can do it.

Thanks

IIRC when I changed mine, the battery isn't readily available in shops like Boots, Dixons, etc.
I got mine from Halfords, so check prices before ordering - battery prices are like insurance quotes, no logic involved.

The CR1632 should be more available now so you will most likely find it for sale somewhere on the high street although you will pay more as quite simply they need a greater margin to trade than people selling them online. The other month I needed a cr2032 in an emergency for my PC and had to buy a pair from the supermarket which was about £4, I could have bought about 10 for the same price online!  :o

One place to get them from is ebay but I would pay more to get them from a good seller and get branded batteries as the key fobs can get damaged when you change the battery so you don't want to be doing it too often.

I get my batteries from here: http://www.battery-force.co.uk/

But they have very low stock of CR1632.

I ordered one from Amazon (not directly from amazon but one of the people who sells via amazon) for £1.08 + 10p delivery - I suspect could have found cheaper but trust Amazon even if not directly from them.

Very good service as well as ordered yesterday evening and had an email this morning saying it had been despatched using Royal Mail - so given past experience with Royal Mail I might see it some time in January

My record is ordering something from Maplin at 1915 one evening and receiving it at 0730 the following morning.

Maplin sent an email to say that it was in the post - four hours after it had arrived ;D
