Mudflaps- who needs 'em?
« on: 24 January 2012, 11:05:43 PM »
They are driving me nuts scraping the road every time I hit a bit of a bump.
I can trim a bit off the front ones but don't want to cut the SAAB ones on the back.
Would you guys just take them off or is there some adjustment can be made to the suspension which seems to be much softer than the CS.
I'm wondering if the 1993 CS springs would be a straight swop or are they exactly the same and just a waste of time.
Or would the 19mm ARB from the 1993 be better than the 18mm one that is currently on it.
Its easy take the mudflaps off but to my mind they are showing up the soft suspension. Is the 2.3 CD really that much heavier than the 2.0 CS?

Paddysaab,

I guess there could be a couple of reasons.  Have you checked the ride height ?  I think only the Aero was lower.  I though 40mm but I seem to remember some discussion on another site that it might just be 25mm.  Next is the tyre profile.  195/65 on a 15 inch rim  ( 205/60 is near as dammit the same ).  If these are both OK then I would suspect that the shock absorbers are getting a bit soft, allowing more movement in the CD.

There is very little difference in weight between all the varients.  A couple of suitcases and a Granny in the back more than cover any varaition.

Paul @ Kippen.

I cut around 15mm off the front flaps on my CS, which was dropped about 40mm from standard as they sometimes caught. Never did it again after than. I agree that is the car is otherwise standard but still rubbing, then it seems likely the shocks are past their best.

Ride height looks standard and there is less than 85K on her.
Compared to the old CS with more than 100K more miles this is much softer but doesn't feel like the shocks are gone.
In fact it passed its NCT only a few weeks ago.
I'll do a bit of measuring on Monday
