9-3 diesel pump installation question
« on: 16 March 2012, 11:34:29 AM »
Now before i start im no mechanic and this to some is probably a daft question so , i apologise in advance but just humour me ..
My 02 9-3 looks like it's needing another diesel pump and after the hassle i had last time taking it to a garage im going to fit it myself but i just need to know 1 thing ..
how do you time it up ?   do you get the engine to DDC , then put the groove highlighted in the picture to top and slide the pump in and connect ?   or does that groove specifically slide onto something so it doesnt matter getting the engine ddc as you can just turn the pumps spindle till it slides in ?
really could do with and appreciate any help on the matter

Just so you are aware, if the pump hasn't been divorced from the donor car you won't be able to marry it to the new one and you will need someone with Tech-2 to marry the pump up to the new car.

I had a quick look at the WIS.

But either way, the job looks tricky.

Includes....

Jack up engine remove engine mounts.
Remove timing chain tensioners.
Using special tools to lock the crankshaft and pump.
Tying chains to sprockets.

If you aren't experienced in engine work, I wouldn't do it.  There seems to be a huge potential for error.

Looking at your picture again.  The four bolt holes are not equally spaced, so it will only fit in one position. The groove in the flange may not be relevant.

And on your car you need a special tool to release the fuel lines.  I think they are the push-on self locking type.

See first three attachments....

I think you ought to get a Workshop Manual CD (WIS) if you want to do this.
