Wobbly mirrors

Went to beach last night as weather so nice - north sea like a millpond with not a single breeze - superb.

Upon return home with one soaked through Labrador I needed to switch on rear screen heater as steaming up. Within a few minutes it was clearing but again I noticed the door mirrors went wobbly as if the heating element in them was softening some kind of fixing to make them loose! I tried pushing them but that made no difference so I thought I'd give em a little tug to see if they came off - nope, they were stuck fast - so what do you guys suggest.

Car is 55 Reg Vector Sport 2.2TiD estate. Mirrors are electric heated with reverse tilt but not folding

Probably a mirage caused by the unseasonally hot weather!

The mirror glass is glued onto the backing that holds them on where the heated element is, maybe it softened the glue and they were heading towards a falling off?

mine did something similar during the winter - eventually the passage side mirror fell off the mounting while going round M25. Mine is a 2005 estate so about the same age, don't know if it effected both sides as the drivers side was replaced couple of years ago after being removed by a transit on a country lane.

I ordered a replacement online for £25 and there is the fitting instructions at the top of the messages on this forum - one of the few bits of car maintenance I could manage myself

Mine seem to be fine afterwards though - its not a one off.

Turn the defrost back on and see if the mirrors become loose? if they do then you can do something about it before they fall off.

Norfolk Jim

Nope - even with the defrost on they still can't be pulled off! That's what's puzzling me

Both mine started to 'slip' off I could slide them back into position which lasted a short time and then they would slip down again which then cause the wobble. My glass was relatively easy to pull off tho' and I reattached with double sided tape. So far so good!
