Secondary air injection pump
« on: 25 April 2012, 04:28:32 PM »
Can anybody help me with part numbers for the secondary air injection pump for the 9-3 sport saloon (2003-4)? I know that it's not essential to replace it but I see (ebay) cheap second hand Vauxhall (Omega) pumps advertised as compatible with Saabs. Saab (Pierburg?) number is 12791957. Possible compatible GM no. is 90448806. Anyone know if they are compatible & save me a fortune? Thanks a lot.

I can't find any reference for saying that it will work, what you could try and do is see if the Saab number is valid for Vauxhall/Opel and then see if that has been superseded to the new number, if so then you should be OK.

Thanks for the welcome, Trenchfoot, & for the idea, Audax - I'll give it a try.

If you do replace the pump check the valve at the manifold end as its usually that leaking that kills the pump in the first place  :)

I hear the pump is quite difficult to replace - its located deep down. And the cause of failure is usually a faulty check valve. The valve can get sooty and cause water to leak into the pump knackering it. I could suggest testing the check valve for soot by unfastening its hose and probing with your pinky (this is easy). If there is no error code, and there is soot, clean the check valve and replace if need be. Its (apparently) an easy fix.

At 100K Km I had the check valve replaced as a precaution measure to protect the (much more expensive) pump. If the check valve fails then most likely the pump will follow soon.
Pump's PartNo 12791957
Check valve's PartNo 12791285
