Will they fit?
« on: 17 May 2012, 07:55:00 AM »
I have just been offered a pair of heated front seats out of a 2000 Aero, no electric movement though.

I have a 2002 Aero ( facelift ) and I was hoping they would fit and work as mine has not got heated seats. I am not bothered about the movement as I am the only person who drives it anyway.

Anybody know if they will fit and is the wiring there already in my car?

If it is will I just need to fit the seats, fit some switches and the fuses in the fusebox or is there more to it than that?

Thanks

Steve

Your aero must be an unusual one Steve as i thought all aero's had them heated and the option was whether or not they were electric movement.

My aero was a 52 reg and had both so I would think yours has the wiring in place - can you not see it underneath if you move it right forwards?????

Sure someone else will confirm this

I believe that the airbag connectors may be different and that the wiring isn't necessarily always there. I think you might have to try it and report back!

Are the 2000 seats "sports shaped".  Some of the early Aeros had standard flat seats.

If you really need heating, you could just buy the pads and fit them under the seat covers.  You may even find the pads there already with the wires cut off.

How stupid are they to fit different airbag connectors!

Depends, if they had a more reliable or secure design then it could make sense.

If newer bags needed different signals from the crash sensors, you wouldn't want the wrong ones plugged in by mistake!!  :o :o

Just been to have a look at the seats and yes they are of a flatter design than mine so a non starter. Also some peoples idea of immaculate is not the same as mine, no rips or tears but they looked like they were well worn.  He also wanted £100 each for them so I think he will be waiting a long time.

I am interested that mine might have the heater pads in already, how do I find out? Which is the easiest part of the leather to remove?

My car is an 02 and as far as I understand  the first face lifts heated seats was an option.

I will go out in a bit and see if I can see any wiring, where should I look?

I know on early Discovery's they were all fitted with heated seats and it was only the switch and fuse that was missing.

Thanks

Steve

Just been out to have a look and I have about 8 or 10 wires going to each seat, is that enough for heated seats?

I also popped out the blank where the switch would be and there are wires attached to its back.

There is even a 30amp fuse in the fuse box already.

I take it from that all I need now is a pair of switches and I will have a warm posterior?

Is there any way of bypassing the switch so I can see if they get warm before I buy some switches?

Are there the same number of wires going into the connector as there are coming out in the seat direction?

There's a second 4 pin connector between the main connector and the heater pads.  Attached is a diagram of the driver's  seat pad wiring.  Connector H80 is the big one under the dash.  Connector H22 is the 22 pin connector you see under the seat.  The unmarked one is the extra one for the seats.  Check the wire colours.

The second pair of wires is the temp sensor.  It activates the on/off in the switch depending on where you have set the temperature on the adjuster wheel.

Yes I have got all of them and the purple wire behind the switch blank is live with the ignition on.

The wire that come from under  the seat to the plug under the seat has a part number of 5313614 if anybody knows what that means?

According to the EPC (Electronic Parts Catalogue) 5313614 is a cable harness for the manual passenger seat MY 2002-2003 from chassis no. 33047163. The equivalent part no. for the drivers seat is 5313564. No idea what it does as my car electrical skills are limited to replacing the brushes on a dynamo!

STOP!  There is an airbag sensor on the runner of the later seats that's not on the early seats and if you fit the early seats you will get an airbag warning light (now an MOT failure).

Apparently the sensor is to detect how close the seat is to the dash. in theory it may be possible to swap the sensor to the old seats but don't know if its been done.

In any event you need a copy of the WIS for the wiring diagram as the wiring is different between the models, although from memory I think the side airbag wiring is the same. A WIS is only the price of a coffee on ebay and worth its weight in gold.
