Coolant Venting Problem
« on: 19 August 2012, 01:20:40 PM »
Hello everybody.

My father's Saab 9-5 (2000) has a strange problem and I was wondering if anyone could help ?

It intermittently vents coolant (a lot of it) from under the bonnet, but we can't be sure where it comes from.

Our best guess is that it's coming from what looks like a control valve, under the top of the bonnet area in the region where the heater matrix connects to the cooling system.

The Haynes manual is next to useless and doesn't even show the valve in question.

The problem occurrs infrequently, but when it does a lot of coolant is lost very quickly.

The engine is a turbo petrol 2 litre.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Andy

Welcome! :)

Probably the heater by-pass valve.  It's the black plastic thing.  It had three heater hoses and a thin wire coming from it. It leaks.  Feel underneath it.  It will be damp.  It's held in by the clips on the pipe.

Buy replacement from Vauxhall.  Same part.  Same GM part number.  Cheaper from Vauxhall.

Part No: 90566947
