Air Con service - Oxfordshire
« on: 30 August 2012, 12:04:49 PM »
Anyone needing a decent quality air con service in the Oxford area would do well to try A.C.R.E..

My air con seemed to be getting noisy but still worked. I booked the car in at ACRE in Carterton where a leak-check, dye-test and refill was carried out for £48 all in. No leaks but the gas had run very low, and there was no service record of a previous fill.

In comparison, SAAB in Oxford wanted £120 for the same job (although that included cx'ing the pollen filter -  a job I can do myself though I did get them to offer the job without the pollen filter for £65).

The work carried out at ACRE was in my opinion, pretty thorough and I have had no problems since.

You may not want to read this but ATS have an offer on at the moment for a half price Air Con recharge - works out at £22.50

I had mine done yesterday, had the same symptoms as you- not as cold as it used to be and increased noise from the AC. Working fine again now.

I know that some people with scoff at using ATS but to honest all they do is hitch the car up to the machine and the leak check, lubrication and refrigerant refill is all done automatically.

Blimey - that is well worth considering. Happily mine is performing very well since my interesting journey into the unknown with my car but I do realise that, providing the components are sound, there is not a great deal to the servicing of the system other than the proper equipment, and correct and trained operation is vital. The matter of costing seems a bit like supermarket shopping!

i agree,it does not really matter where you take the car for a a/c service ie(regharge) they all use the same equipment to regharge your system so as long as the staff are basically trained on the equipment the end result will be the same,so yes it is just a case of shoping around to get best deal.i topped mine up myself at start of said summer and all still working fine.

Good tip, noted, thanks. I note they also have mobile capacity, which might be useful.

Hey that was a good find! Sounds like a bargain ...provided the person operating the automatic machinery knows what theyre doing that was a really good deal!
I know very little about ATS and their ethics but have heard some extremely dodgy feedback about Kwik-Fit and their ethics.  :o

Using an aircon machine is quite simply that of knowing how to hook up the hoses and push buttons, it is all automated even down to some of the systems asking you what car and engine it is and weighing the gas out without any numbers needing to be typed in. Even repairing an aircon system is pretty straightforward, diagnostics are also easy when you've got a bit of know how on how they work and the common problems, given how few components there are it shouldn't need too much in the way of advanced knowledge. Well that's in my experience anyway of knowing approximately nothing about aircon several years ago to repairing it on a regular basis, never came up against anything I didn't manage to sort ;)
