Is there a buzzer for sidelight warning option?
« on: 16 October 2013, 08:38:35 PM »
When I drive onto the airfield site at work, I have to turn my lights on to side lights.

For the third time over recent months, I've ended up leaving them on for the day and come back to the car on my way home to find a flat battery.

Is there a function I can select or get Tech2 selected where a buzzer can sound when you remove your keys if the sidelights are still on (headlights is not a problem as these go off when you turn the ignition off)?

This is a PITA especially when some of my old cars  (including a Vauxhall Grr! Cavalier) used to have this.

You can program the DICE module for "lights on warning" which says on WIS "warn for lights on when the key is removed from the ignition switch" if this works on side lights or not I don't know. Can you not just leave the head lights on all the time which is what I do as I figure the best way of using them anway.

Yes, it works for sidelights; it can't work for headlights as they are automatically switched off when the ignition is off :)

You get a series of bongs whilst the door is open and the sidelights are on if the ignition is off.

Yes you can get the buzzer for sidelights.  But it's a Tech@ adjustment.

There's a list of Tech2 options for all the other stuff in the sticky posts at the top of the 9-5 forum here.  Have a look and see if you want to do other things at the same time.

But, as said, if you leave the headlights turned on, they will go on and off with the ignition.

Yes but gents, as Geoff says, he has to turn from headlights to sidelights for work reasons, which is why it keeps happening! (A job for Tech2 therefore...)

Gents, thanks for replies. As Tom says, I have to turn them to sidelights for work reasons (can't be dazzling the pilots, can we!).

I suspected it would be a Tech job so off I will go to get Tech programming.

As I had to get jump started again this morning, I suspect the battery now needs replacing too. Oh well, as it's a GM battery it's probably the original from new (although that would make it at least 10 years old).

I read it that the lights had to be turned *on* (so thought that the state before was off) to side lights. Makes a bit more sense now :)

Sounds like you don't need anyone to tell you but I'd replace that as soon as. I reckon the forum battery average is 5-7 years' life and they mostly go without any warning. I replace mine at 5 yrs just to try to avert the inevitable non-start in the pouring rain with a packed car etc.

To update and to reinforce Tom's statement, after a three hour drive back to Cornwall last night, when I went to start the car this morning it barely turned the engine over.  A trip to the local Bosch Auto centre got me a new battery and a lot more piece of mind.
Next call was to the local ex-Saab place to book a session with the Tech 2 tool to get the buzzer option fired up.
