Radiator renewal
« on: 03 December 2013, 09:35:31 PM »
The end cans on my MY2000 9-5 had started weeping when hot.
I bought a new pattern one from eBay supplier pru_trading for £80.
It looks like an OE rad with the same mouldings in the plastic work and sensibly packed to avoid damage in transit, plus they delivered in a couple of days.
As far as the removal of the old one was concerned it was fairly straight forward.
The most difficult part being the bottom hose coming off the water-pump which required quite a lot of pushing and pulling accompanied by various expletives!
Removing the auto trans pipes revealed 14mm, one-trip pressure sealing washers (aka Dowty washers).
My local accessory shop Marparts in Caversham, Reading came up trumps with replacements at c.£1.50 each.
Now all I have to do is fit the new rad, replace all the pipework, top up the auto trans. fluid and coolant and the jobs a good 'un.
Cheers, ppb  8)

Nice one ppb. Also check the heater pipe that exits the head and goes to the firewall. It gets really thin and porous after 10 years and is well worth considering. Just did mine and it isn't leaking a drop now. Very happy. 100 degree days coming up.
