The old 2.2tid is losing coolant. Where are the most likely places to start looking?

The most likely culprit is the solenoid/by-pass valve above the water shut-off valve on the bulkhead.  Part no. 90566947.

Yep, shining the torch down the back is showing wetness. It seems to be a failry inexpensive part but a complete &%$£ to change. So it goes.

Three clip-on pipes.  A bit awkward.

Part is also used on Vauxhall Vectras and things.  Possibly cheaper from a Vauxhall dealer?

A bit busy at the moment, so I'll entrust this to my local indy. One gets lazy when you hit 70. In the meantime, I'll just zap around in the old NG900 which still goes like manure off a spade despite the a/c having given up.

Change the cap too while you are at it. An often over looked part when coolant issues arise.

Mine is leaking too.  Coming out from the big hose (sorry for the description) on the RHS  half way down the engine block.  Haven't had the guts to take it off yet to see if its a seal or a gasket on the fitting.  It's just  weep onto the block really.  No WIS as the old laptop died.  Not leaking in great amounts and it does appear to be weather (pressure changes) dependent on leaking.

hi all,

oddly on motorway trip north on thursday my temp gauge started to rise so pulled over and coolant leaking, culprit heater bypass valve. should I buy £8 option from the bay or source genuine. Im convinced hot weather didn't help as was showing 30 deg all way up the m40. My car is V6 with SAI is the part number same for all 95,s. PC has died again and I have no WIS or EPC.

Thanks

steve

Yes it's the same for all.  It is also used on the Vectra.  Maybe a bit cheaper from them?

Use the newer part number, 90566947. It's a GM part and Vauxhall use the same number.

thanks will,

Its booked in for Monday and have asked them to fit genuine Saab or the Vauxhall part. Today however it never used a drip of coolant going to and from work whereas it had been loosing about 1.5L a day??!!.
