The 2.8 engine

There are few around with the 2.8 litre engine, and go for reasonable prices, probably because of fuel consumption and the silly road tax. Anybody got one? Any views pro / con other than the above?

I once did some numbers for these, they very often will work out cheaper to own than a diesel. Especially if you do very few miles at all. I keep thinking about replacing my 9-5 with a 2.8 9-3 Estate.

My wife bought herself a Carlsson in the summer.  Being four wheel drive and an automatic will probably make it thirstier than the manual front wheel drive version, but after hearing stories of doom, the fuel consumption is not too bad.

Normal very short journeys around town show about 16 mpg.  Average is around 24 mpg and a run to Newcastle and back in the summer was around 30mpg.  Better than that on the return, we went north via the rural roads of Lincolnshire.

Overall not much different from my Hirsched 9-5 Aero.

I have a 2.8 v6 auto with the flappy paddles.have had the car for 10 months now and find the car a great all round vehicle being a sport wagon makes it good with a family.i really like the v6 power plant as smooth and  quiet.the car is hirsched but still get 26mpg going to work and back and 30mpg on a run.i would say if you were looking to get one try to find one with the hirsch upgrade which I did as makes the car very quick with a superb power delivery .i had a 9-5 aero prior to this one and find running the v6 only slightly more expensive but the v6 soundtrack makes it worth it.
