Now another problem. Gearchange buttons.
« on: 24 February 2015, 08:25:30 PM »
Today I discovered another problem.  The manual steering wheel buttons for the gearchange don't work consistently.  This morning they wouldn't work at all.  They were OK on the way home.  Then when I went out again I could change up to M3 while stationary, which is correct, but I couldn't change down with the other button.

If I leave it in D and drive the car, it's fine and when I choose M it moves OK and the correct gear shows, but when the buttons don't work, I can't change it, but it will drop down the gears as I slow and select M1 at rest.  Then driving off, it stays in M1 and I can't change it - sometimes.

All the other steering wheel stuff works.  Well the dashboard SID stuff.  The radio buttons are not connected to the replacement head unit.

I'd suspect that the clock spring in the wheel/column is broken. Best way to diagnose would be with Tech2 as it will read button status. You can usually get it to a point that you turn the wheel one way and it works and then turn it another and it will stop working but this is hard without Tech-2 or a large skidpan!

I will play with my Tech2 tomorrow! :)

I spent today trying , unsuccessfully, to track down the battery problem.  Maybe it's the battery after all.
