Parking Aid and WIS frustrations

58 9-5 aero estate

SID is telling me there is a fault with the parking aid, cheap op-com gizmo is reading code B2950. That code in WIS is a check of voltage on pin 1 of the connector from the parking aid ECU to the sensors, that connector is located in the bumper beneath the near side tail light cluster, so it's a bumper off to get in about the connector. That pin is at 12V, so battery voltage

Back to WIS and no matter what test result is selected, pass or fail, ends up at the same next step in WIS, i.e. replace the cable from the parking aid ECU to the connector - somewhat frustrating

I have limited experience in WIS so is it me or is WIS this frustrating ?

any light that can be shed on this will be appreciated

W

Looking at the wiring diagram in WIS, that pin feeds all the sensors, via a crimp.  The fault could be anywhere along the run.

Connector H6-1 is clipped to the end of the metal bumper.  You can just see part of it at the top of this picture.  It's vulnerable to mud!

The red wedgelock broke when I undid mine.  Maybe it was broken by the man who fitted the towbar...

But if you don't have a towbar, it's quite easy to get the bumper off.  Two small 8mm bolts in each wheel arch and then one nut on a stud at each end of the bumper.  Access is a bit difficult in the estate, but OK if you have a socket set.  It's under the foam pads in the floor.

There are two studs.  Only one is used.  The second one is used if you have a towbar fitted, along with a reinforcing bracket and an extra bolt.

Have you checked continuity from every sensor back to that pin on the SPA module? If so there is always the possibility that the fault is inside the control module.

finally a dry enough day to get the bumper off and dismantled,

near side interior of the bumper and the H6 connector caked in mud, whole process was slowed up further by discovering the remains of a bird's nest and its midden of ~30 snail shells inside the bumper

anyway, continuity is fine from each sensor connector back to the ECU and no shorts/cross-talk between the wires in that part of the loom, dismantled the ECU and one or two components look water damaged, so off to see what I can find on the auction site

incidentally, in WIS I am finding in the instructions for some procedures, where you would expect to see images the display is showing boxes containing a large red X - kind of like the image can't be located - is there something additional I need to install or do, like keeping the install disc in the drive while running WIS ?

Are you running on a 32 bit system?

I run through Vista on an emulator on my Apple Mac.  Even then some of the pictures "go missing" a reload from the disc usually cures it.

How many cars do you have WIS installed for? Installing some versions alongside other versions will cause images to disappear.

Running on winxp, native rather than vm and is installed for 9650 and 9600 model ranges, will try a reinstall for the 9600 as that is the only one I need, for now  ;)

Oh, and there's another tip, if the pictures are missing for the year you're looking at sometimes changing the model year will get you pictures that are still correct.

4 new sensors fitted and now everything is good, I am now quite adept at removing and dismantling the rear bumper, every cloud etc.
