Did I mention the turning circle????

hehe.. not sure I got that.

I've been picking the brains of one of my colleagues who's been a Volvo freak for sometime, currently drives an edna 9-5 estate TDI though.
He had the old shape V70 T5 that he'd taken somewhere around the 400 mark.. Have to say I prefer the old shape - classic Volvo 'it's boxy but it's good!'
To be honest I'm taken with the new shape R as I could do with something newer that I don't have to spend too much time or money on to hone into something better..

Back to the Mercs Audax - chatting to another friend at work again today. He picked up a 1999 AMG E55 a while back for around 2 grand, he's spent a bit of time doing basic maintenance on it but got it on the road recently. I'm sure you're looking for something newer but it sounds like a hell of a lot of car for the cash, if you can swallow hit at the petrol pump.

It heard the car had a bitch (of a turning circle) Geoff - woof woof...........................

fka - you can get the new shape in T5 guise as well; doesn't look a whole lot different to the R but better engine.

I'm not that bothered about going so fast, given most traffic prevents you from even leaving a slip road at much more than 50mp having something that guzzles fuel to not go fast would be a waste.

Anyway, car is booked in with Saabtech, it's leaking oil and now coolant too. Depending on what Saabtech say I might bin it and get a replacement or get it fixed up, comes down to how many other things are wrong with it. I'm starting to think that a 9-3 isn't big enough either so if it is the end of the road it'll have to be a 9-5 or another make  :-\

I think I'm sad enough to have a grin on my face just from listening to the 5.4L V8  ;D

Anywho, good luck, I hope it's salvageable!

I agree that the sound of a V8 would be awesome, but given I spend much of my commute stationary in traffic, it would be a very expensive noise but for a different reason that the case I am looking at now with the current car.

So, today I took the 9-5 to Saabtech and it's not really good news, they have confirmed the oil leak from the timing cover and a radiator leak amongst a few other issues cropping up and we're look at well in excess of £1500 to get the car sorted and their opinion was similar too mine which would be to drive it until it breaks.

The slightly better news is that I said to them that I'd be looking for a replacement but that I didn't know if it would be a Saab because I was having trouble sourcing a good car, turns out they had 2 candidates in the stock, one was a 9-5 which I discounted quite quickly as it was a manual but they also had a 9-3 Anniversary Estate Aero Auto, which has pretty much all the right spec but no heated seats :( this has been through their workshop and is going for some paint work imminently and comes with 6 months warranty through them so after a few phone calls I just told them I'd buy it so I'm waiting for a call back now to work out how I'm going to pay and when I can pick it up. The only other thing I'm not so keen on is that it has some after market speedline 18" alloys which I'll be looking at replacing with a set of Saab wheels when I'm not quite so stuck for cash.

BTW, does anyone know a good source for a tow bar for a 9-3 estate? I asked Saabtech how much to have one fitted and they'd be wanting over £500 to get one fitted which is way too much.

Saabtech got me a very good deal on a set of four 18 inch ALU56 wheels, about 18 months ago.

Picked the car up today, had arranged for them to swap the 18" after-market wheels for the correct 17" Anniversary wheels although I had to supply tyres so it's now on summer tyres that came off the 9-5 rims!

Had the immediate pangs of did I buy the wrong car when driving home as the 9-3 is not the same as a 9-5 but think overall I'm really happy.
