Roof bars

Hi chaps.

I noticed on my 9-3 TTiD Aero Estate that there are slots in either side of the roof at the front and half way back.

I know some have full length roof bars but it this an option to simply fit cross bars when the side bars are not there??

BTW the car still puts a nice smile on my face each time I drive it........................

I was looking at this just myself over the weekend as my estate also doesn't have the long rails, basically you have 2 choices, first off you can flip up those covers and get some bars that are screwed onto the roof with an allen key, the Saab part no. for these is 32025591.

Alternately you can fit the long rails but you will need to get new trims/covers and have them painted and get hold of a set of bars (or look out for the bits on ebay) and then you'd still need to get some bars to clamp over them. If you want to do that then a single rail is part no. 32025611 and the trims are 12775636 and 12775637 (probably!).

Please double check all the part numbers though before ordering anything as I was only looking at options as I need a tow bar fitted for the bike carrier before I consider putting stuff on the roof.

Once I have sold our van I will be looking at a removable towbar to fit our clamp on bike carrier - we are only 35 mins from High Lodge in Thetford forest. Roof bars though are handy for transporting my kayak (that's when I am ready to get back in it again - shoulder muscle issue).

Car is behaving fine, do think it needs Hirsch though but will wait until the warranty has ended.

Like you I need a tow bar but I will start another thread for that.

I still keep wondering about Hirsch upgrade but my 400Nm is pretty quick already with no lag at all so going up to 430 will be quite impressive!!

I'm hunting to see what I can get. I did like the Westfalia I had on the 9-5 Aero but the GDH or whatever it was on my 9-5 TiD was really good and easy to use.

Main reason I'm thinking of Hirsch is that I don't like the throttle response as standard, I'm constantly having to change the throttle amount by small increments to maintain speed but with Hirsch this effect is greatly lessened. It's not the car as in my experience they all do it compared to the 9-5 which is much easier to just cruise in.
