interior mirror
« on: 17 June 2016, 10:55:52 PM »
I need a new interior mirror for my 2007 vert.

Looking on ebay there seems to be several types depending on the year. As mine is a 2007 with the face lift interior I assume I need the 2006/7 and later one but they are listed as suitable for a saloon and or estate with no mention of convertible.

Does anyone know if they are all the same or have a part number for a vert interior mirror.

Thanks  Alan

My copy of the EPC (Electronic Parts Catalogue) goes up to 2006.  It gives the part no. for the interior mirror for a  9-3 convertible as 12789848 and 12789849 for the automatic dimming version.

Those two part nos. are listed in the EPC as only for the convertible.  Also listed is part no. 12789846 which I assume is for the saloon and estate and part no. 12803374 for use from chassis no. 31056550.

Looking at the parts catalogue a mirror from any year will fit any car (although the electrical connectors may be different but you can use a pin removal tool to swap the connectors over) but the saloon+estate have different mirrors to the convertible so you need a replacement from a convertible only. I see a couple of mirrors on ebay for the convertible so you should be OK, does the current one have auto-dimming or not? If it doesn't you may consider an upgrade to an auto-dimming mirror. The manual mirror is 12789848 or 12777853 and the auto-dimming mirrors are 12789849 or 12772926 or 12777850.

What's wrong with the current mirror?

The silvering on the current one is failing, caused I think by the same thing that caused the seat belt warnings I had.
A blocked drain (elephants trunk) allowed water to enter via the pollen filter housing, I didn't notice it until a heavy storm left 3 inches of water in the passenger footwell. It's amazing how much water you can get in before you notice it when it's parked facing uphill lol.
I don't have auto dimming so might consider the upgrade.

      Thanks  Alan

It may be that the difference between the two models is that the connector are reversed in direction. Male and female the other way around.

I fitted an auto-dimming mirror.  It was plug and play.

I've got a new mirror so just need to fit it.
The cover looks to be in two pieces, one with the interior light / switches that covers the mirror mounting point and one with the motion sensors.
So that I don't break anything by levering at the wrong bit how do I remove them ?

I've not done the mirror in the convertible, but here's the info from the manual...

Thanks. Mirror now fitted.
If anyone asks in the future.
There are two metal clips, one each side where the join makes it look like there are two pieces to remove, (you can see one on the bottom edge in the second picture ) a thin flat probe pushed in releases the clip and the panel will pull off.

Well done! :)

That sounds a lot easier than the saloon.  You have to unscrew things and the metal spring clips stick on the wrong bit...
