Rustproofing/undersealing/waxoyling
« on: 08 August 2019, 01:22:31 PM »
I have been contemplating getting my 2006 9-3 Aero undersealed/waxoyled etc once I have sorted the rear wheelarch rust.

Has anyone got any experience of getting this done, any ideas of the best treatment/cost, and any recommendatiosn of places to take the car to (ideally in the midlands)?

Steve, if you are happy to get a little grubby it is straightforward to do it yourself.
Here is a report I put together for a car club magazine, if of any use.

Hi David,

yes I thought about it, but I don't know what sort of the condition the car is underneath. That said it's had 2 MOTs in my ownership, and no advisories for corrosion, so fingers crossed. I think if I had a garage I could keep the car in on axles stands I might consider doing it myself, but I was talking to a neighbour who bought a Transit, and one of the first things he did was spend about 300 getting it waxoyled. I'll ask him where he had it done.

Got one quote today that was around 500, which is a tad more than I wanted to spend!!

Chris Calvert does undersealing.  He specialises in LandRovers, but if he's interested, he would do a good job.  He posts on some Saab forums as "Zagato".  But he's in West Sussex.  And the sort of job you would get for 500 would seem inadequate.

Some of his links and guides.

There's a post of his from 2015 here: http://www.saab-v4.co.uk/speedball/topic.asp?topic_id=6173&whichpage=7
