Windscreen replacement...

Appointment for 10.45am.  Autoglass van arrives.  I see it.  Go to get my coat.  Go to meet him and he's driven away... 

Called the company and they reported that he couldn't see the car, so he thought that I had forgotten.  The car is at the back of the house, off road.  That fact was mentioned on the booking form.  I did wonder if anyone looked at that...   the other fact mentioned on the form was that I need a screen for rain sensing wiper.  I wonder if that was noted?

They also said that he phoned me and left a voicemail when I didn't answer.  I don't have any missed calls and the phone was in my pocket all the time.

He supposed to be coming back at 1.30pm.  We shall see what happens.

Windscreen is done. No gap at the top, and it's the right one.  So possibly it's going to be OK with no noise.

Apparently the reason for him driving away is that Autoglass are suffering from a physical form of denial of service.  Recently they have had a spate of false appointments.  They turn up at the address and there's no car, or the owner has not asked for a new windscreen! There are a lot of nasty people around.    And I've seen an Autoglass van parked in the estate, it's his, he lives about half a mile down the road.

Yes they did.  The new screen came with the clip in place.  The last windscreen that was fitted 7 years ago required the sensor bracket to be fitted by the installer.  They messed it up.

I haven't tried it yet. The recommendation from the installer is to leave it at least half an hour before driving and preferably 24 hours before sticking things to it and using wipers etc., unless really essential.  I don't need to go anywhere soon, but I have to rearrange the MOT before the end of the month.

This is the crack in the old screen.  It was 3 inches long from the bottom up for about three months.  It only progressed up the screen overnight on Wed/Thursday, probably due to the frost. The MOT was booked for Friday.  Sod's law.

The new sensor is up tight to the screen (the dark one!) and the old one has an air gap which shows up more.

Drove round the M25 to Joe for the MOT, service, etc. and the windscreen is silent!

Go back to collect the car later.  I hope the fog clears soon.  We can barely see across the road.

Maybe their cars are parked around the back and they mentioned it on the booking form?

I've just been out in the car to get some food.  It hasn't been used since before Christmas.  It was very steamed up inside. It's never got damp inside in the previous 14 years of its life.

It's too cold to be messing round outside with water to find a leak ...
