Blower motor
« on: 01 September 2025, 01:16:12 PM »
I have a 2007 93 and the blower motor has become intermittent. The garage have had the car on a couple of occasions and do not seem to be able to get the correct motor and have now washed their hands of it. Can anybody suggest a good supplier in the UK, preferably in the south east, where the correct item can be supplied with chassis or VIN number?
Any help would be appreciated

Hi Nick, welcome to SST!!!!!

I would try Saabits or PartsForSaabs.....or Neo Brothers. I have used all three in the past, and they are all generally very good. You should be able to confirm with them what the right part is with your reg or VIN, although you might have to contact them, if that function is not on the website.

All three are online and ought to be able to ship parts to you. If they aren't showing the part on their website, send them a message as I have found they may not have something in stock, but they can usually get it.

I'm not sure what derivative of 9-3 you have, Neos have this on their website (although it says it for a 2005 car):

PFS have some as well but seem more expensive. Saabits don't seem to show any 9-3 specific blowers at the moment, but if you message them, they are good at coming back to you with a price ;)

Is it on some of the time, and not working at other times? Was it chirping or making some other noises? it is often caused by the scuttle drain holes being clogged with leaves and gunk so the rainwater builds up, and runs into the cabin via the pollen filter slot in the bulkhead behind the glovebox. The water runs down through the blower first and causes corrosion. You might also find the passenger footwell carpet gets a bit wet after it's been raining.

Worth having a look in case that is what caused the blower to fail. I have a chirping fan, but the last time I looked at it, I managed to lubricate it, and it stopped chirping for the last 2 years or so. but I did find the seal around the pollen filter had dried out and cracked, and was letting water through.

Cyclone Sid has a video on Youtube about this:

Welcome! :)

The black plastic panel in front of the windscreen is designed to fold up from the passenger side. You need to put the wipers in the "service position" to make it easy. Turn on ignition  Turn it off and operate the wipers.  You get one change to move them to the vertical position while you hold the switch.  You don't get the half dozen of sweeps and self park.  If it dosen't work.  turn the ignition off and on again.

When I said that the plastic is designed to fold up, it will be very old and may crack a bit.

Once under, you can clear the drain, and you can unclip and remove the pollen filter which will let you see the bloer and check if it rotates without snagging.
