Strange slippy road sensor/abs system issue

2008 Saab 9-3 1.8T Biopower.

Car has recently started showing strange behaviour.

Sometimes when turning (to the right mostly), the slippy road warning light flashes and the ABS seems to engage (at least it feels like the ABS). It feels like it's the front left wheel that it's happening on, when turning right/tyre under load.

What could this be?

I am tempted to get a new wheel hub and sensor to see if that fixes the issue, but forums seem to suggest a Tech2 might be better to diagnose the fault. I am in Ireland getting access Tech2 isn't easy.

There are no dashboard warnings, apart from when the 'slippy road sensor' engages. This lasts for max 1 second and then turns off. I have looked for codes on my elm327, but nothing. System Check at start says Systems Ok.

Car drives as normal otherwise.

Have you checked all your tyres are good and undamaged and up to pressure? Other than that I think your idea is sound as it's probably a hub going bad but I would try and see if you can get it diagnosed before you end up buying 4 new hubs and still have the problem.

I’m not sure I can be of direct help. But if you are remote from a Tech 2, you may find benefit in fitting an eSID3.  It seems to read all the Saab codes which an Elm reader can’t access. I can read engine codes and I’ve seen codes for door mirror malfunctions, lock problems and other “Saab only” codes.

I’ve had mine for nearly two years and it’s paid for itself many times over.  Apart from just saving getting the Tech2 out, it has saved the hassle and cost of recovery more than once.  My wife is a professional singer and often travels on her own late at night from some distance away.  There have been occasions when a warning light has come on.  She has read the code, phoned me, and I’ve checked and found it to be non-urgent, and she has cleared the code and driven home.

Yeah, I looked at this, and seems a smart buy. I am undecided though. We have two Saab's, but my wife's is really on the last legs. 350km and counting.

Her car is in the garage next week, so will hopefully know more.

Mechanic thinks it might be the ignition coils (says he will check) which would make sense.

If I get a new/second hand set (part number 12787707), do I need a Tech2 to marry them?
