OMG! Didn't know anything about that! I just spent more than that on tyres alone plus the cost of a set of s/h wheels
Me too, though I bought my winter tyres before last winter. Paid over £500 for the set as that's what they were going for then.
Not really a problem with the cars per se but more to do with wheel sizes and tyre design that applies to all modern cars. The high performance summer tyres are completely useless in snow and ice. All weather tyres more like tyres of 20-30 years ago which I agree worked much better in bad weather. That's why the Uk seems to grind to a halt in a flurry of snow - everyone is tyred up for a race track!
Do remember my old 9000 being fine in the snow. 2 or 3 years ago in April it snowed catching everyone out. Remember passing numerous cars / vans the wrong way round/off the road on the A42 dual carriageway. I even stopped to help out with a big Nissan 4x4 that was on it's side. The 9000 wasn't invincible in the snow, but treading carefully I managed okay with normal tyres.
Having said that the winters have been worse since then. Aren't we expecting another bad winter? (Global warming and all that!
