1999 9-3 ignition lock issue

Hi newbie here.
I've had my 1999 9-3 2.2TiD for nearly a year and this last week I have had a problem with the ignition/gearbox lock.
A couple of times the key won't turn from 'lock' to 'on', but after a bit of twisting & turning and clonking about I have managed to release it. Today I accidentally locked it in the 'lock' position & it's giving me problems this time as I cannot shift it. I have lubed it up and still no movement. I decided to strip the console down as I hear that the barrel can be released with a piece of wire but I'm not sure where the hole is. Can anyone help with a) what is the real fault here and b) how can I get the barrel out.
btw I only have one key

I have an automatic, so I'm not sure of the full arrangement you have.  But to get the ignition barrel out, have a look here: http://blog.saab9-5.com/?p=23

But, do you have anything broken in the link to the reverse gear lock?

Hi, thanks for the welcome & the reply.
I really don't know if there is anything else broken. Looking at the link you sent, I'm wondering if it will work as I cannot turn the key at all but it's worth a try.

Found the hole, tried it, but it's locked solid. Can't move the key round at all.
