How to turn RDS back on with 9-5 audio system prestige?

Hi all,

Noticed the other day that my car had stopped doing RDS and today I wanted to switch it back on so I could set the SID clock using RDS. The handbook says to push the "radio/band" button in briefly to turn RDS on but that only changes the band unless I'm pressing it wrong  If I hold the button in then nothing happens at all, any ideas?

I noticed my RDS go off the other day so changed station and it came back on. Manual says press and hold radio/band button. I noticed the RDS RE-TIME function takes a long press and hold to reset the clock. Are you tuned to a BBC station for RDS?

Yes, tuned to a BBC station but pushing and holding the band button won't get the RDS back on and tapping it just changes band. Think I'll try the fuse out tomorrow and failing that I'll put another head unit in or try another car and see how that works. RDS Retime should only take a few seconds, at least it does for me and I do it to a car every week or so but this is using (mostly) Radio 4 as that seems to be what most people have their radio tuned to!

Mine seems to have changed the time automatically! It is normally tuned to Heart Radio to get local stuff but noticed yesterday morning the time was right and only me using the car..................how can that be?

Tried in another car today and I can turn the RDS on and off with ease, guess my head unit is broken.

Don't despair.  I had the same problem, trying hard to recall what I did to fix it.  Don't have the car any more, but I think there was another set of menu options - something like holding the band or some other button down whilst powering on - and I had to tell it to be Europe not USA and then the RDS could be enabled in the normal way.  I think the 'steps' when tuning on the AM band are different on the US setting as well, so maybe see if they are looking strange - that would confirm that you have somehow de-europed it.   I must admit it is all a bit hazy now but keep trying.  It did work in the end.  The manual might have something on regional settings for the radio.

That's a good point!  If you have it set to US frequencies, the RDS won't work.

Don't despair.  I had the same problem, trying hard to recall what I did to fix it. 

It wasn't despair, I've got access to a big heap of head units and was going to swap one in to the car today.

The manual might have something on regional settings for the radio.

This was the hint that sorted it for me, I'd read the manual section on the radio twice, hooked the car up to Tech-II and checked WIS. Nothing obvious is listed apart from hidden away in the very last part of the manual in the section of the specifications for the radio. The trick is to hold down the middle of the seek button while turning the head unit on and it sets it back to European for the radio, I'm utterly baffled as to how it got set to American in the first place think it must be a very bizarre glitch!
