Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Re: Noisy tappets - how bad can it be ?

Odd that some of the caps are on the other way up.

You can't buy them as they are positioned and line bored with the head at the factory.

WIS just says they re numbered 1-5 fro inlet and 6-10 for exhaust

2
My Nokian WRG2's have done the same.

I think it is just toe-in scrub when on warn dry roads.

3
They have to come off as the forked shaft is fitted from the rear

4
I believe they too just pull off, but as a single whole rubber top rather than a 2 or 3 piece one

5
The top part (cap) with silvery bit pulls off, then a rubbery part can be pulled off from behind, all mounted on a grooved metal pin.

There are about 3 parts to it.

6
I can see some of them have some merit.

Flush door handles  :  Reduced drag and noise, better fuel economy, lower CO emmissions
Camera based wing mirrors : again, reduced drag and noise, better fuel economy, lower CO emmissions
LCD main dash display : Reduced size (depth)/complexity of unit, weight, potential for generic component suitable for multiple models and spec's within model etc

7
It needs the correct 'load sensing' motors, and the extra 2nd detent on the window switches (and possible wiring).

8
My uncle has something similar he has used for years while rebuilding his MGBGT.

He's an ex casualty consultant and orthopedic surgeon and very risk adverse.

I always, always, always retorque my wheel nuts after any wheel is off, either by me, or any other garage.

The number of times they have been overtorqued and 6 monthgs down the line are near impossible to remove!

Fuel pressure will only be 3.5bar (or whatever the FPR is) when the inlet is at atmospheric pressure.

If the inlet idles at -0.5bar them fuel pressure would be 3.0bar and if you were on 1bar of boost the fuel pressure should be 4.5bar.

But it does sound low and I'd be looking to check/replace the FPR

Different,
And even the rears are all different as 3 items for left, centre and right.

White smoke on startup is often unburnt diesel.

Are the glow plugs all working properly?  If one has failed then that cylinder will not fire properly for the first few seconds until it's warmed up causing white smole on cold weather cold starts.

Saab in the news / Re: Saab Trionic ahead of its time

A very simplified view :-)

Also, the 1993 Saab 9000 2.3 FTP and Aero also got Trionic T5, but an early version running on the B234 DI/APC basic long block engine as T5.2. All versions from 1994 (short block engine) were T5.5

No, opcom/vauxcom.

The only bit I have managed to use on my 9-3 is on the 1.9 derv's, by choosing zaferi with DPF.

New Saab 9-5 (2010 on) / Re: Which ones to consider?

I think I'd be looking at

1.  TTid Aero (2wd)  190bhp
2.  V6 Aero  280bhp? (auto only)
3.  2.0T Aero  220bhp
