Non genuine NIntendo Wii remotes
« on: 17 May 2020, 09:59:45 AM »
Well this is well off topic :D But in the lockdown, we have dug out our old Nintendo Wii, and I seem to have two out of 4 faulty Wii remote controllers.

With nowhere I can take them to be repaired yet, I thought I'd just buy another couple of 2nd hand ones. Trouble is there is no guarantee they will work, depending on what sort of life they've had, and I can't be bothered with the whole "wait for them to arrive, only to find out they don't work, then try and contact the seller, and arrange posting back and refund etc" thing.

So I spotted that there are a number of unbranded generic replacements available new, for around £17. Has anyone got any experience of these? Are they any good, and are they as durable as an original would be?

I think we bought some and still have them.

They worked the same, but the plastic was not as good quality, just a bit harder to the touch.

I bought a second hand Wii to play game cube games, it came with two aftermarket Wii-motes and two genuine Nintendo controllers. The aftermarket ones were utterly useless and went in the bin!

That's my concern. Old genuine ones or shiny new fake ones?

I'd try for secondhand genuine ones, however I guess you might find they are fake!  :-X

Found a couple of remotes on Ebay, second hand, genuine, but tested and working, from the same seller. So I bought them and they arrived yesterday - and they work!!! Kids very pleased :)

Great, I always find if you can get genuine Nintendo hardware it's generally good quality, some of the aftermarket stuff is very shoddy.

Yes I was a bit reluctant to spend the same amount on poor non genuine remotes, all of which seem to come from China.

Better to always prefer genuine. I bought a brand new controller too before which is non-genuine. It is good at first but after few days, it is not working anymore all of a sudden. Not recommended.
