Funnily enough I never liked the feel of the silver inset Aero steering wheel on my 9-5 and swapped it for the sport dimpled leather one...

I could be totally wrong as it's been a while but the part no. on that steering wheel looks like it's for an 07- onward car and i think your car is the earlier model? If so you will probably need an 07- airbag too as I think the fittings for the air bags are different. You might want to check this before you take it to bits!

Mmmm, the guy did get me to send him a photo of the wheel I have in the car now, and I did confirm to him it was a 56 reg. What part number should the fancy Aero wheel have if the airbag is to be transferrable?

It doesn't have one. That style of wheel only came in after 2007.

You will need an airbag to fit it.  Even then, I'm not sure if the resistances are the same for the early and late airbags.  But it seems likely.

Test readings are the same for early and later models, so you should be OK. Also, for chassis number after 61034050, the controller is the same part no for 06-09 models. The steering wheel itself is the same part number for 06 and 07 models.

Yes, you're right.  It seems that the steering wheel design changed in 2006.  So the airbag should fit any steering wheel from 2006-2011.

One oddity is that there are two "chrome" steering wheels.  One is labelled 2006-2007 "Aero", pt no 12759377, and the other 2008-2010 "Sport", pt no 12783362,

So I think you boys are putting my mind at rest.....I think :D

I was told the switches from my existing wheel should just swap onto this wheel. As well as the airbag. Hope that is true :)

Are there supposed to be 3 springs that the airbag sits on? There is only one on this wheel which looks a bit wrong to me?

Hopefully can swap them from the old wheel if needs be.

Some slight wear on the silver bit on the right side. Wonder if one can get matching spray paint to touch it up?

It should be OK as others have confirmed the parts listing. I knew that they changed at some point and thought it was  when the 07- style dash and interior came in, I didn't want you to take it all to bits and find out you couldn't put it back together again!

That's much appreciated Audax. I don't depend on the Aero so if it is in bits in the garage for a while it does't prevent me from doing anything. But I'd want to have a fair idea I was going to be successful.

Was wondering if I should take the airbag and switch packs out of my existing wheel and try to assemble them all on the new wheel to make sure it all fits together before fitting it all back onto the car.

If you look at the close up pic of the middle of the new wheel, there seem to be three places that ought to have springs on them  but only the top right does. Is it missing two springs?

Or are there springs on the back of the airbag?

There were only two different airbags fitted to the 9-3.  One for 2003-2005 & one for 2006-2011.  They are completely different shapes, so if the two you have look similar, then they will be the same.
