How often to replace spark plugs
« on: 21 June 2021, 11:03:16 PM »
I was thumbing back through my bills and service history for the Aero in the 3 or so years that I have had it, and noted that none of the last 3 services I have had done (Saab specialists Hallam & Sutherns, +  then 2 x WMSS) have listed the spark plugs as ever having been replaced. The car is due another service around now, and I was going to ring up WMSS again to get it done, but wondered at which services/year or mileage intervals you would expect to change the spark plugs on a B207?

Should I ask for a new set this time round and see if that apparent misfire at idle is cured? WMSS have had the car the last two years and have never said there was anything wrong. Diagnostic checks reveal no fault codes stored.

The last service done by WMSS was in the book as a main service, but no plugs were listed in the parts section.

I think the interval for plugs on the B207 is every 72,000 miles, it'll be in the service book.

It wouldn't hurt to have them changed though, if you have a concern just have them replaced.

I have read in different forums about specifying NGK spark plugs when replacing the ones on the B207R engine. I am hoping to get the car serviced in the next couple of weeks, possibly at WMSS in Birmingham, and I want to ask them to replace the plugs, but I don't want any old rubbish from down the motor factors that they can get their hands on. So either I'll ask them to fit a specific sort, or I'll get them in advance and leave them in the car for them to fit.

Had a quick look at Saabits, and they seem to have Saab branded plugs. Are these the same as the NGK ones, or is there a specific NGK part number I need to go after??

SWSS should only use NGK or Saab. They will be the same thing.

The plugs you used to get in a Saab box were NGK just with a 10% uplift in price. I would assume that they still supply NGK plugs, if they aren't NGK though I certainly wouldn't fit them.

Saabits ones are the correct ones.  But I got the correct NGK plugs from Halfords for a lot less than the Saab price.
