Title: Dame Edna 1.9TiD Engine cover
Post by: Kev_Mc on 18 December 2011, 08:23:26 PM
Don't see any reason why there should be - but is there any difference between an engine cover for a manual and an automatic 1.9TiD 9-5?

Pentagon Saab (Sheffield) managed to break mine whilst working on the EGR valve.

Is "engine cover" the right description? I'm asking a breaker about one and don't want to be sent the wrong part. It's one of these, but this is a 9-3 jobbie:

Am I right in saying there is some foam backing / insulation stuff that comes with it? What's the right name for that?

I believe the cover is only there to look nice.
I do however stand to be corrected :-)

Right, first off. You don't want the engine cover in that picture as it's for an 8 valve and the oil filler cap is on the other side of the engine.  ;)

You want an engine cover from a 16 valve 1.9 engine (not a twin turbo!) either 9-3 or 9-5, doesn't make any difference if it's auto or manual. The foam is sound insulation and reduces the amount of tractor noises from the cabin, it doesn't come with the engine cover but if yours is missing then you may want to add it as it will be noisy without it. There's also 4 rubber bungs that hold the engine cover in place. The 4 rubber bungs and the foam sound insulation is the same on all 16valve models.

Just to point out that the earlier part numbers supersede to the ones given by sgould so both early and late types will fit your car.

Modified my post to remove the duplicate.

I only posted the later part as Kev's car is 58 Reg.  But if the earlier part still fits..... :)

Mine's an 08 reg - does the above still apply?  :)

There are two insulations.  2006-2007 and 2008-on.  You should already have the later one on an 08 Reg.  What Audax says is that either will fit.

Sometimes "new" parts are exactly the same, but they have a different number because the supplier has changed and the part needs to be traceable in the event of a recall etc.

SGould ( I note some members call you Will but in the absence of a formal introduction I will stick with SGould......) I know that the cover and insulation have individual part numbers but while replacing the oil trap on my 9-5 2.2 TiD I sprayed the insulation with engine cleaner which was not a good idea!

I posted a want for new insulation on 'Car Parts Connexions' but the dealers that contacted me said it was not available separately even though it is listed in the EPC as a separate part.

Oil trap still leaks too!
