Title: 9-3 Sat Nav
Post by: Norfolk Jim on 25 May 2012, 09:40:19 AM
Bit of information gents.

A good friend of mine has just taken delivery of a new car which he kept secret from me! It's a 2006 (06) 9-3 Vector Sport 150 Tid Auto estate with 60k on the clock, full history and full 12 months warranty. The car has the inbuilt Sat Nav which he is dead chuffed with.

Q? Have there been many updates to the maps since 2006 and if so what is the current one for that unit and a likely cost to obtain (if one is able to get hands on it).

I don't want to think he'll rely on it to point of ending up in a field where road has drastically changed such as A1M/M62 junction and A1m/M1 interchange. He hasn't often ventured out of Norfolk as his last car, an old Focus was so unreliable but with this car he's looking to travel - BTW he's useless with maps!

The 9-3 is different from the 9-5 so I can't say for certain, but I have heard that some Mazda discs work in the 9-3.  I use a Land Rover disc in my 9-5.  The LandRover disc (from a LR dealer is £140) It is identical to the Saab one which is a lot more expensive.

Is this a 2006 car or an early 2007 car?  The two cars have completely different dashboards and satnavs.

Ive got a 2006 car but will have to look at the disc - but since the software update I had done on the car, the sat nav no longer works/is recognised - I assume this is because the disc needs changing for a later version?

Thanks chaps.

I'll ask the question but seeing as its an 06 reg I would assume its not a 2007 model as surely that would be 56 reg?

So if he has a touch screen system the discs are the more expensive ones and if 2006 model they are cheaper and Mazda discs work in it.

Many thanks

Thanks for pics and information duly passed on but alas he has a more serious problem now. The car is an auto and when up to temp will not engage 2nd or 3rd gears.

The car came from a Ford main dealer and has their 12 month full warranty on it. They now have it and say it's common problem and either a solenoid or water leak from heat exchange matrix. Not sure if I'd trust them so told him to insist they get it dealt with by local Saab Indi with Tech2 as pretty sure the Ford garage won't be able to read all codes???

Will let you know what they find

They may be able to read the gearbox codes it depends on the code reader, although in all honesty why would he care if it goes to anyone else or not, if the car has a 12 month warranty then hand it back to them and tell them to sort it.

A coolant leak is ususally the kiss of death for the tranny. However, only the 03s and some 04s are ususally affected.

He cares because he relies on the car daily for work as a community nurse and want to make sure it is done correct in the first place and not spend half his life in hire cars which he'd hate as he's just not used to getting in any old car like most of us - I can clearly see his dilemma; have the car for 2 days and then in garage!

In that case If it's like that after 2 days I'd be looking at getting the money back and buying elsewhere instead of mucking about at all as the car will (probably!) be off the road for a minimum of a week.

Exactly and isn't it the auto versions that need good run to do a regen but locked in lower gear to get revs up? He is more driving around the community with occasional southern bypass runs but that's only a distance of 12 miles continuous dual end to end before roundabouts so will that do it or is he likely to blocked up DPF?

I have no personal experience of the diesel engine, but I hear that the regen won't start until the engine is warm and then needs about 20 mins more to complete.

My wife does that sort of low mileage and our dealer told her not to buy a diesel.

all modern diesels fitted with a dpf need a good run to get the dpf hot enough to do a regen,if not it will clog up,if all he is doing is short trips a petrol model would have been a better option..
