Title: Lumbar adjuster
Post by: nine-fiver on 22 October 2012, 07:52:19 AM
Hi All.

Seems I need to get into the driver's seat and repair the lumbar mechanism. The wire triangle has broken and needs replacing, easy enough. The seat looks like it comes apart from the back pretty easily, but there is a little loop on the base on a black circular thingy that I don't want to fracture.

Anyone done this at all?

I've been into the seat, but I don't recognise what you describe.

When I replaced the seat heating pad I had to do it in situ because I couldn't undo the fixing screws on the runners - even with a 24 inch breaker bar!

There is a band of white nylon fabric that gets tightened by the lumbar adjuster wheel, all in the seat back. The vertical panel as viewed from the rear passenger seat has two interesting long cleats that tuck in to the leather sides that secure it in place. But on the bottom is a loop of fabric that is stopping the back panel coming away easily. I don't want to force it. I can see inside the seat with a torch.
Aero seat, though, '04 car RHD, parchment white leather with black highlight inserts.

Got it apart and all fixed up. Good seat design actually. Bottom loop is actually a cable tie, needs snipping. Then the back panel unclips from the sides and slides down to reveal the seat innards. Lumbar webbing is controlled by a double cable arrangement and the metal triangle support to the triangle can snap over time. Easy fix. Use the broken but to hook and loop to the existing part and you are 'back'. Sorry.
Zero dollar fix though.
