OK. Love the 9-5 to bits and know every nut and bolt after having two in the garage for 5 years.
Thought I would pop the bonnet and have a poke about the underlings of the 9-3. Nothing familiar at this point, and am feeling very much the auto-novice. How does one check the auto fluid level?
Also have one little brown plug not connected that needs a home. Not sure where it goes. 8 inch lead just above the auto selector cable, going to somewhere...
There's a rumour that there is a dipstick for the auto fluid, but I've not found it. But I've only been looking for nine years.
I think it's uner the black plastic cap on the front of the engine. But I'm not sure. I don't think that the auto fluid is required to be changed at any time.

1) from underneath at the front the dipstick is green in colour, car is an 08 can't see there being anything different, but you never know with these manufactures.. ??? http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=235683&highlight=green
just checked the haynes manual and it shows it in there also..
2) that sounds like the plug for the manual trans reverse light switch.
Excellent, thanks Gents.
Yes, there is a little green cap looking back at me. Surely the fluid needs changing at some point though. Not sure I entirely like the idea of a fully sealed system. GM thinking on that one....hmmm
It's not fully sealed.... it's on the service list as having the fluid changed every 72k (miles, don't know for km), both the 5 speed and 6 speed have plugs to dump the fluid and a procedure for changing fluid. Be warned that in cold weather (not like a problem for nine-fiver!) that it takes ages to get the fluid to temp.
There is nothing like lying on your back on cold concrete on a 41Degree day dropping the oil. C, that is.
