Title: On the nose
Post by: idlerider on 09 May 2013, 01:33:50 PM
I've started to notice a strong smell of fuel under heavy acceleration. A look under the bonnet shows no obvious signs of leakage anywhere and performance/economy seem unaffected. Am I missing something known/obvious?

Hi,

I would check seal on top of tank, under rear seat that holds fuel pump. Heavy accelaration may be sloshing fuel out of seal if shot or fitting loose. Easy to check, before looking elsewhere.

Hmmm... had the fuel pump replaced about 4 months ago. Thanks for the tip.

I had this on my 9000- the elbow connecting into the fuel pump had a hairline crack in it. Not obvious until it was under pressure. You can check it by lifting the rear seat up, and there is a round hole in the carpet that allows you access to the cover over the fuel pump.
