I don't have a convertible, but I've heard that the roof should not work when the boot is open.  Is the boot properly closed?

And also is the cloth "bag" that the roof goes into properly down?  If it's snagged up or the lifting cable is broken, the roof won't work.

The trunk lid (boot) and the tonneau cannot be opened and occupy the same space. You can leave trunk lid unlatched but closed, and operate top. I've a 1999 9-3 convertible.
