Title: HID self check
Post by: nine-fiver on 23 May 2014, 12:14:40 PM
My '02 9-5 Aero used to dip and check its headlamp every time you started the car.
Just noticed my 9-3 Aero do it. Quieter of course, but I have never seen it do it in over 18 months of custodianship. I start the car with the lights on quite a bit too.
Does it do it every time, or just sometimes, or only when told to?
'Brilliant' headlamps, just the best.

WIS implies it does it every time:

"The system is calibrated automatically once the engine has started. The stepper motors are activated to the lowest position and then go up to the correct position based on the height/inclination of the vehicle chassis"

Wife's 9-3ss dips and raises her HID's everytime after starting
My 9-3ss dips, lefts, raises and then centres the HID's everytime after starting  (adaptive (cornering) HID lights)

my old 9-5 did it every start too

Ah, I think I have worked it out. The 9-3 levels its headlamps every time it starts, even when the lights are not on. The 9-5 aero only did it when the lights were turned on. So when I turn on the 9-3 lights after it has been running for a few seconds, you don't actually see the levelling process. Or hear it. The 9-5 Veleo lamps were very noisy when they levelled, whereas the 9-3 is almost silent.
