At last had it done and really really pleased.
At first I thought 'what's the fuss about' but then out on the open road it really come to life as smooth power surge fro 1500 up to 3250 revs with most impressive being the pulling power in 5th from about 50 mph. The speedo really rises rapidly and I mean rapidly.
Completely different delivery to my previously tuned aero but this really is amazing for such a small bhp increase.
had oil change this morning using Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40 and already noticed the engine running quieter.
Smiles al round but now noticed a sort of whine from the front bit like a wheel bearing as same in or out of gear from about 60 upwards.......puzzling but will get it looked at before the warranty runs out in month and half.
I'd like to upload this picture but says upload full!!!
Jim I don't know that this site can host pictures. You need to put it on Photobucket or Flickr and link it from there - at least thats how I do it
Thanks Trenchfoot
We were able to put small ones up of 200kb or less on the forum for 'What have you got'. Perhaps thats swamped things??

I think the lbft is as significant a contributor as the bhp in this case.
I am interested in any difference between the Steinbauer P-Box and the Hirsch software mod as both appear to yield identical figures for power and torque (though I can't say if they appear in the same places in the rev-range)
The delivery of power has been brought down the rev range slightly but pulls much smoother than in standard form and seems to have ironed out the Jeremy Clarkson comment.
Pretty much the impression that I gaot after fitting the P-Box, then. I await your mpg figures with bated breath!
Does anybody think it is worth investing in either the Hirsch upgrade or the Steinbauer box given the mileage on my car - 123K miles. Had full Saab main dealer service history to 80K, then Saab indy and now a local garage owned by a guy who is a rally driver. SWMBO drives it daily and she does like using the loud pedal to p**s off ( nearly wrote blow off but thought it may have been misinterpreted by some of you gentlemen out there!) small boys with small cars and big speakers ;D
Colly - mine has done 120k and full mian dealer servicing except last one, hence I changed oil to Shell stuff couple of days ago.
The immediate effect of the Hirshc upgrade was that it felt smoother drive from the off.
Mine was done on Tuesday morning before I went off on a site visit down near Godalming - a 350 round trip from here.
When I first started driving I thought 'what have I just paid £560 for?' but then after a while I noticed what was happening. The power band had changed and started coming in from just under 1500 rpm right up to around 3250 when max hp appears.
It's not a traffic light flyer but mid range - yep it goes and keeps going - best is in 5th from about 50mph it really gets a move on.
Going down I had a really really strong head on wind and the weather was completely attrocious with torrential rain but in between we cruised happily at speed limit ;) and 90% was motorway or dual carriageway. When I got there the SID read 45.2 mpg as obviously fighting the wind.
On the way back it was quite different with mild breeze and no rain at all so cruised home late afternoon in mixture traffic and arrived home with SID reading 50.4.
Since then I've been in and around city and the odd blast round Norwich southern bypass and I reckon she's about 2mpg perhaps 3 better than before but a good test is coming up next week as we will be down at Marazion near Penzance (you neck of the woods isn't it?) so a good 435 miles each way with good 375 being motorway/dual.
All i all I'm glad I did it as more relaxed driving with no areas of hesitation
Jim,
Thanks for your reply, now the really difficult bit is persuading SWMBO that it's a good investment and will make her daily drive to work so much more enjoyable. Interesting what you say about the power coming in below 1500rpm as that is one thing that really annoys me about the car is the poor pick up at lower revs. I always think that 1st and 2nd gears are too low. Fine on the motorway though.
I am in North Devon, about 3 hours from Marazion and the weather is miserable at the moment had a thunderstorm earlier on. Have a safe trip, is it work or pleasurew?
Been thinking of hirsching my 1.9 tid. Anyone got thoughts on value of this? Similar benefits?

6 hrs driving Norwich (Mulbarton) to Marizion (well Goldsithney 2 miles away where MiL lives)
Norwich
A11,
A14,
M6,
M42, (stop at services as it's 2 hrs in),
M5, (stop at Exeter services as it's 4 hrs in and last decent stopping place),
A30,
Marizion.
420m
Normally do it in 7 hrs elapsed, 2 half hour coffee stops, and let the kids (Just 3 and 6) go to the loo.
Average 70mph and 38mpg (2.3 Aero)
Normally do 2 or 3 trips a year
Just caught up on this thread. Jim has been talking about this upgrade for a while and I'm glad it has worked out well. What no one seems to have mentioned is effect on insurance. I got a quote last year for this mod from Aviva and it was about an extra £100 just for the BHP Hirsch mod. If I go for it on my plain old Linear I hope to notice it in the lower revs as Jim says as I'm constantly selecting a lower gear to get the revs up to get some grunt. Time to save the pennies again.

Aviva charged no extra for my Stg 3 CS Aero, it's still £183 a year Full Protected NCD
That's cheap I'm paying £248 with protection and no mods, was 218 on my 16 yr old 9k.
Ermm....
30% staff discount....
No wonder then. :)
Got stung rotten when I added Steinbauer to my motor, but I'm beginning to think the insurance companies have got it in for me, as I appear to tick all the "low-risk" boxes but still pay twice what most people seem to think is reasonable.
Re: fuel consumption - I've always wondered how people seem to get consistently higher MPG figures out of the 2.2 than I can, but I tried a little experiment recently, having got half-way to work with the engine more-or-less warmed up and bimbling along in steady 55mph traffic - zero'd the MPG on the SID and watched it start from scratch at slow cruise......it was up to 59mpg and still rising when a need for negotiating traffic and junctions intervened. I obviously need more free-flowing A-roads between home and the factory!
My insurance went up by 65 quid to £395 Fully Comp and business use so about the same as the tuned aero I had but car is worth more and 3 years newer so assumed that was the difference.
Wrighar - that you scareo???? Didn't we meet about some wheels I had from my old 9-5????
Where do you go to in Marazion then?? We stay at Wheel Rodney.
This is 3rd time for us (first without boys) and both other times were school hols so terrible 10 hour journey's. One was appauling as we left at midnight and still didn't get there till mid afternoon - mind you it could have been something to do with the kip I had at Exeter for a while or sooooo..........wife just let me sleep and went off for walk with boys!
I've done journey before on business and got there in just about 6 and half hours but thankfully all school kids back so we should have decent drive. We have a stop over at an aunts in Weston S Mare first so nice easy 3 hours from there (or less if I get excited).

Probably been that away meself - SWMBO was brought up in Helston and educated (ha!) at the convent school. Several happy hols staring out into the fog pretending we could see the sea.
I had that this weekend - when we got back to Cornwall from our visit to Hampshire on Friday, SWMBO said let's go to the pub with a good view. Normally that's a cracking view from Falmouth over the Penryn river and Falmouth harbour to Flushing - all we could see was fog/drizzle but at least the beer was good!

Okayyy, anyone else changed names during the move from the old place?

Aye, as indicated on the left...
I'd seen that one, TomPaine! Interesting choice of monikers...
Great time on Cornwall chaps and even got some sunburn on Saturday walking from Penzance to Prussia Cove and Praa Sands. Only rained once and that was on way home on Tuesday.
Watched fantastic sunset on Sunday eve at Sennen Cove :)
Seems like I was lucky for a change.................................
