Title: Dog Guard
Post by: banger on 14 September 2011, 08:17:34 PM
Anyone know the best place to get a dog/cargo guard for an 05 Estate. Dealer prices are expensive and even some on ebay are 90 quid, yes I know I'm cheap.

If you wait you'll get one on ebay for about £50. In fact, it looks like they sell for less than that now anyway.

Got it today and it was a tight fit, some tight tolerances in manufacture of this guard compared to the 9k type, just need a dog now.  :P

I found mine difficult to stop rattling as it tends to loosen if back sears used a lot! Put a little spongy tape ( like racquet handle tape) round the pieces that slot into the roof to reduce irritating rattle. Anyone else had this problem?  Also got the boot divider which helps keep dog away from shopping!

I stopped mine from rattling with foam tape around the bottom fixings, but the TP fixings are OK if you put some weight on them while tightening the bottom.

Here's the link the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0u4Z9FvE8g

Saab should have made a production version of this car and they should have hired this chap for their adverts.

That is some video. As for the rattling I haven't road tested yet but can imagine it will rattle much as it really was a tight fit into the earlobes.

Been thinking about JM's rattle. Isn't the purpose of the upper bolts that fit in the fixtures in the roof, that so you can tighten the bolts with the thumbscrew to stop rattles. Just a thought.

Indeed they are and with a little pressure on back seats then it all moves ever so slightly and causes a small but irritating rattle. A little foam or cushioned tape just stops the noise. I've tried tightening bolts with tool rather than hand but it's really just down to tiny movement in rear seat if occupied. Had a merc estate before and never had a similar problem. Also we have two 95s and in second we have the netting guard and no problems with it.

Road tested today and no rattles. The one I got was from a 1999 MY so maybe slightly different to the newer types but there certainly is no play between upper fixings and lower fixings are tight too.
