Hi, just to let you know, if your gearbox is still giving you trouble, there is a 2002 Aero on uksaabs, that is being broken, guy called Prism, under parts section. He has an overhauled gearbox apparently- could be worth a cheaper punt?

What a luck! Just 3 weeks after having the car serviced, breaks replaced, engine mount replaced, CPS, BOV and APC proactively changed, etc the engine has given up after only 126k miles - while accelerating it went boom! crunch crunch crunch silence.... According to Motorvation piston number 3 ceased to exist - cheapest option that makes sense (please confirm) is to buy a brand new engine from neobros (£1600) and get it swapped. I was told all in all £2400-2700 for the job.

Since I am sort of emotionally attached to the car, it is in a really good clean condition and it was well cared for, I initially said - fix! Now that I rethought, checked autotrader etc and I can buy a newer 9-5 with not so many miles for about that.

Good question now: should I buy a "new" MY2003-2004 Aero or fix my old banger? How much money is a well cared for 2002 Aero with busted engine worth?

How long have you had the Stage 1 an who was the tuner out of interest?

This is the 3rd busted piston stage 1 Ive heard about recently.......

I'm sure it's all coincidental mind.

Isn't £800-1100 a bit excessive for relatively simple job of disconnecting one engine, swapping accessories onto the new one and mounting it in (pretty much labour charges + fluids + oil filter)?

How much would it be to fix just a busted piston/cylinder?

£2700 sounds like more than the car is effectively worth. A lot more in fact...

I'd bet it's one of two things:
1) The PCV return to sump pipe was not fitted back- or the pipe to the oil trap ot fitted properly
2) It's a red herring and it's the oil pressure senor that is shot leaking oil down the back of the engine block onto the exhaust.

Well I pumped my tyres up to 38psi and I cannot believe the difference in how the car feels to drive .. Im sure the Kwikfit did not inflate the tyres to 38psi when they fitted them.

The car felt a little strange in the wet with the increased pressure but I put that down to that fact I was un used to it.

Yep used to run it at 37/38psi.   32psi made the handling go a little wobbly - sorry i missed this thread earlier!

Don't know which bit of their site you're looking at but their pdf catalogue says PFR6H-10 for the 9-5 Aero which is what Saab say too so I'd use them *unless* Hirsch say to use a different plug.
Hirsch say Do Not use the platinum 6's as per standard aero. The plug for this tune are the cheaply 7es gapped at 1.0.

Had plenty of email exchanges with them in the past!!

There are 2 sensors. Just replace the front one, I doubt it will make a difference cleaning it, but if you do try, use a totally non residue electrical cleaner. Also buy a decent sensor, not a cheapo job.

mine is always P1334 (misfire on cyl 3/4).

CEL has been on continuously for 4 years now.

Spend a few quid on a ELM327 box (either USB or Bluetooth) and diagnose yourself.

£20 for a bluetooth elm box and a free app download for a smartphone (like torque) and your laughing.

and

That code could be a few things. Often lends itself to a dodgy Direct Ignition Cassette though & or dodgy spark plugs.

Your car has the 322mm discs.  The later option was for the 345mm discs with the single piston callipers.

As far as I know there are only two options since 2002.  Earlier Hirsch cars were sold as "Troll" or "Carline".

322mm ?? Pauolo had them down as 332mm

They are 332mm by 32mm (SGould just made a simple typo that's all) Some were 30mm or 28mm IIRC too.

You may see in the catalogue 331/332mm though.

They are sometimes in stock, but very limited. Brembo make them up for Hirsch, some kind of special order I think.

PS- Nine Fiver- the calipers are Brembo 4 pot's

don't use the PFR 6's. They are the expensive platinum plugs that are standard for the Aero BUT- the Hirsch tune is actually designed to run on the much cheaper BCPR-7ES. Gapped at 1.0mm

In fact all Aero's run perfectly on the BCPR 7's.

Hey Paul .. thanks mate duly noted.   car going to indie next week for oil pressure switch and two new parking sensors, replaced the airbox with a JR induction kit (love the noise) and Im asking the indie to check the bushes all round see if they need renewing.

seriously looking at getting her done in vinyl wrap as its not a bad price and isnt totally permanent.

Induction filter eh! Had one on a stage 1 Aero a few years back - I too was a sucker for the PSSSST when you came off the throttle- do create a little splash guard where the bottom of the original filter box was, you don't want water sucked into the engine....
