Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Re: Fog light

Tes, that is exactly like the fog light I took off, complete with an H8 bulb. The newer one I have doesn't have the little rubber vent tubes and has a LED bulb. I think I'll replace both sides with LED bulbs, having different bulbs port and starboard can cause odd problems

On the 2007 9-5 I have somehow dinged the nearside foglight. I have sourced a replacement from the Bay of Plenty but it's very slightly different. The old foglight had a halogen bulb and some odd little vent tubes I assume because of heat build up. but the replacement doesn't have the little tubes and has an LED bulb. I think I'll just get a couple of LED bulbs but is this street legal?

Somehow we have lost our keys to ye olde 9-5 estate. I think there may be a spare key in the car, but how can we get into it, short of smashing a wind

... the moth has started to get into the bottom of same. I observe that you can get pattern parts for the 9-5 rear wheel arches but it's obviously major surgery to cut out and replace. Anybody had this done? Is it worthwhile to keep the old barge (160,000 and counting) going for a few more years ?

The garage swapped out my CPS. The connector showed signs of having burned out. Not sure what this means in the overall scheme of things, but we hope for the best.

Thanks Tom. A bit of Googling is suggesting the same thing. It only costs pocket money, but due to old age and no ramps I think it'll be a garage job.

Cheers

My 9-5 Aero has for reasons of its own decided to not start. It happens about once a month. It turns over and there is no sign of life. Call the AA and it will generally burst into life after half and hour and then run merrily thereafter.

I am mystified.

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Brake Pads

The ancient 9-5 is in need of new front brake pads. There seem to be a zillion brands out there. Which are good 'uns, and which shouldn't be touched with the barge pole?

Tried the Simon solution and that has worked for the brake lights. Still getting the air bag light very intermittantly. That is really annoying as it suggests a wonky connection not just the clockspring.

Thanks, I'll give that a try, weather permitting ...

I am beginning to give up. Last week I removed the rear lights, replaced the rear/stop bulbs and cleaned up all the contacts. Lo and behold, still getting "brake light failure", back to the drawing board. And still getting random "air bag failure" despite changing out the clockspring twice ...

Went to buy a Chrismas Tree today. All packed up, and the 9-5 decided is wasn't going to start. Plenty of battery, turning over merrily, but just not catching. Left for a while but suddenly it came back to life and ran the 15 miles home quite happily. I suspect it's the well-known DIC so it'll get a new one this week anfd a new set of plugs. Nothing on the codes of course.

That's life. Then it's on to the external temperature sensor and the brake lights. No peace for the wicked, time to sell up and buy a Skoda ...

That "corrosion on front suspension" is a classic advisory. The other one that comes up is "corrosion of back exhaust box". It's all good clean fun.

I gave up in the end and took the problem to my local indy. Took him all of 15 minutes to take everything apart put new clockspring in and put it back together. Sometimes it just ain't worth the sweat and blood pressure ,,,
