Thanks - took a couple of weeks to get around to this but temp sensor and thermostat replaced and dashboard needle back in the middle of gauge.

Thanks!

Thanks all - Renovo cleaner and then ultra proofer seems to have done the trick.

Hi,

The '98 S-reg 9-3 convertible I bought a few months ago came with a few niggles which were fine considering the age and price.

For weeks the temp gauge on the dashboard has been intermittently moving from '9 o'clock' to cold and back again. In the last few days it has remained stuck on cold whatever and is showing no signs of moving. I know this doesn't read the 'real' coolant temperature but any thoughts on where to look for faults and what might need replacing.

Similarly - Since I last filled up with petrol I have been getting odd range and DTE read-outs from SID. After a couple of thousand miles of indicated 31-32mpg SID is now over reporting the mpg (36-ish) but conversely under reporting the range (c.300 miles when full). The fuel gauge is about where it should be for miles done. Does anyone have ideas about this? No settings on the SID have been changed.

Many thanks!

Thanks both - especially Trenchfoot for the detailed advice on the way to go with this. Much appreciated!

Hi All,

I have just had to replace a previously trusty 9-3 hatchback which disappeared in simultaneous clouds of smoke and steam and puddles of coolant and oil....

I couldn't resist an older but very smart early 9-3 convertible - a 98 'S' 2.0T. Everything about it is superb for the age but the roof is quite dirty (some green mildew and general dirt) and when tested in the extreme wet around here recently it is clear there is a small patch of the roof that isn't 100% waterproof - there are no scuffs or tears so it is just like a small section no longer repels rain and causes a small damp patch inside the car in the liner.

Has anyone got any advice on the best way to clean the roof (and then keep it in decent condition) and is there any waterproofing treatment that I can use on it?

One other long-shot - the car has aftermarket parking sensors fitted that go off randomly when driving along in rain. Any ideas how these things are fitted and wired up which might be causing this?

Any thoughts appreciated!

Hi All,

My 2001 9-3 SE is in for a service today (at main dealer in Newbury - remarkably cheaper than independent garages - although very sadly now relegated to a desk in the corner of a Skoda/Suziki dealership....) and amongst a list of things that need fixing before the MOT next month is the high level brake light. The bulb/s are gone and they are quoting me £83 for a complete replacement.

Has anyone got any idiot proof guidelines to replacing this DIY - can't believe it can cost that much to fix and a quick web search finds spares for under £20.

Thanks!
