I did mine on a 9000 Aero and ended up doing the head gasket as well.

There is more room on a 9000 so if was to do mine on my 9-5  I would pop the head off and get it refaced while its off.

It very difficult to get the cover back in without damaging the head gasket so why take the chance?

For the extra cost of the head gasket do that too, there's not much room on a 9-5 so expect to swear lots. :-\

I think this is the first mention of an issue with chains since I started on the (old) site several years back. Certainly the first I can recall, I though this was the one area where the petrol engine was not at risk.

At least it just seems something to watch out for as the miles clock up, rather than a routine service item before an engine's barely run in. Which seems to be the case with belts.
